Airport and Public Transportation

Airport and Public Transportation

Bucharest is easily accessible by plane, train, and long-distance bus services from major Romanian and European cities.

The city is served by two airports: Henri Coandă International Airport, the main international airport, and Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, mainly used for business and selected low-cost flights. Bucharest North Railway Station (Gara de Nord) is the city’s main rail hub, offering national and international connections.

Please note that the University of Bucharest does not provide pick-up services from the airport, train station, or bus terminals. Travelers may use public transportation, train services, buses, taxis, or ride-sharing services to reach the city.

If you choose to take a taxi (yellow cabs with identification code), it is recommended to use the official taxi ordering machines inside the airport.

Avoid unlicensed taxis outside the terminal, as they may overcharge. Always ensure the driver follows the standard route and avoid unnecessary highway detours that could increase the fare.

Ride-sharing apps are also available in Bucharest and are a convenient alternative for transportation within the city and from the airport.

Bucharest Metro System

Bucharest has a modern metro system operated by Metrorex, offering a fast and reliable way to travel across the city.

The network includes five main lines:

  • M1 (yellow): circular route connecting key areas of the city
  • M2 (blue): north–south line linking Pipera neighbourhood and Berceni neighbourhood, passing through the city center
  • M3 (red): connects the west and east of the city (Leu C Dormitory is located near Politehnica station)
  • M4 (green): links Gara de Nord with the northwest area
  • M5 (orange): serves Drumul Taberei neighbourhood and central districts (the Rectorate building is located near the Academia Militara station)

Students of the University of Bucharest can purchase a discounted monthly pass with the ID student card.

Bucharest ground Transportation System

The ground transportation system in Bucharest includes an extensive network of buses, trams, and trolleybuses operated by STB, covering most areas of the city and surrounding neighborhoods. It is a convenient and affordable way to travel for daily commuting and exploring the city.

Students of the University of Bucharest can benefit from discounted monthly passes for public transport with the ID student card.

For easier use of the system, there are two official mobile applications: Bilet TB and Info TB.

The Bilet TB app allows users to purchase and validate digital tickets directly from their phone, eliminating the need for paper tickets.

The Info TB app provides real-time information on routes, schedules, vehicle arrivals, and service updates, helping passengers plan their journeys more efficiently.
